Everybody has a laughin' place

The entrance sign to Splash Mountain goes above and beyond - look at it - the lantern, the big three dimension building, Brer Rabbit, etc. Talk about a nicely made sign.

Kayak time

On the river near the bridge between Asia and Discovery Island are boats and this very colorful kayak. I don't know about you but I wouldn't mind hijacking that kayak and taking it for a spin around the park.

Desktop: Happy New Year

New Orleans Square is always in a festive mood and their holiday decor always seems like a cross between Christmas and a huge New Year's party. So this week's desktop pays a visit to both holidays - enjoy your New Year's celebrations!

The globe - made of metal...

... and floating on water. The globe barge (the technical term escapes me) sits outside the American Adventure in this photo. Lately when I've been to Epcot it often seems like it can be found here.

Santa's on his way

With four dinosaur reindeer and and an old runner sled it might be safer to hide under the bed!

Chimney fire!

This, kids, is why you always make sure your chimney is clean. The gingerbread house seems to have a perennial issue with ridiculous amounts of smoke blasting out of the chimney, which tends to also bring ridiculous amounts of snickering from the crowds it seems!

Even the studio guard shacks around MGM get into the holiday spirit!

The David Davies funeral home has a rather interesting decoration out front. Jack Skellington makes a rather cool ornament...

Cartoon trees

Mickey's house is home to a rather cartoonish tree, perfect for the Toontown atmosphere. The plastic snow doesn't look nearly as cold as the real stuff we have here!

Looks like Santa is on parking duty these days, hopefully he's still Mr. Jolly-Old-Elf when he's reading meters!

Extreme icicle lights

Once again this year Cinderella's castle is decked out in icicle lights - they certainly are more impressive than your average neighborhood icicle lights! The snowy look adds yet another nice nightly touch...

Tropical wreath

Back at the Caribbean Beach the wreathes in the Customs House are all tropical with colorful flowers, fish, and more. Considering it is a toasty -3F where I am right now anything tropical looks great!

Desktop: Light up the night

A north woods holiday

It's a north woods style Christmas at the Wilderness Lodge. With lots of lumberjack style plaid and natural decorations (featuring pine cones, etc.) it is a peaceful and comfortable look. Nothing too fancy or wild here...

Reindeer Roundup

Meet Santa and his reindeer at the Reindeer Roundup! The Big Thunder Ranch turns into a festive holiday playground with all sorts of attractions and distractions. This is just one of the cartoonish, retro-style signs that were used there last year.

A tropical holiday season

The decorations around the Caribbean Beach resort all revolve around, well, the beach. And the ocean has provided some cool new characters for your garland - how about sea turtles and sea horses?

Snowmen in NYC

Lounging in the back alleys of NYC is a snowman and sled, they are year-round residents I believe thanks to It's a Wonderful Shop being right next door...

Thursday, December 3, 2009

Let there be light

There are Christmas tree lights and then there are Christmas tree Lights! Putting your tree on a streetlight might take that concept to the extreme but this is Tinseltown where there is no such thing as extreme!

Today's desktop - a classy sign right next door to a classic address in New Orleans Square...

Refreshment Coolpost

Time for a stop at the Refreshment Outpost, sorry, Coolpost on the World Showcase. One of the Coke branded locations around the parks, this one is known for its colorful coolers from around the world. So is that water tower filled with Coke? And if there were an earthquake and it started shaking would it have the same effect as shaking a can of Coke? Hmm...

With the reopening of Space Mountain today's photo is from their exit queue - designed as a cargo shipping adventure (following the cargo being beamed across the galaxies) when FedEx sponsored the attraction it still (at least before the rehab) was virtually the same minus the FedEx logos...

Italian doorway

Next time you are wandering around the Italy pavilion spend a couple extra minutes at the Doge Palace (modeled after the real deal in Venice), the architecture and details are terrific. Look at the door, columns, light, etc. here on the back entrance alone...

Nifty knitting

At Mickey's Toontown Fair the tent is full of county fair entries, including knit items. Like the sweater for Toby Tortise who appears to be set for winter with the whole shell covered for warmth.

Busy as a beaver

This beaver is just one of the many creatures you will find in the Creature Comforts store, this guy is hard at work framing up a picture that would appear to be made of wood. Go figure.

Sailing, Sailing...

Just a few of the details in one of the many nooks around the Columbia Harbour House. Model ships, rope and tackle, and so much more. No matter where you sit you are sure to have a lot to look at when you are there...
