I still don't understand why the dolphins have scales, but I am thoroughly enjoying Trash Can Tuesdays!
The statues are, supposedly, based upon the Berini's Triton Fountain in Rome. Both the fountain and the Dolphins dolphins are the heraldic form, not their natural form.
